State Tax Laws - South Carolina

Taxes range from 3% to 5% for individuals. Standard deductions and exemptions along lines of the federal are used. South Carolina is one of the four states that makes it difficult to move abroad. They consider those who move out of the state still residents unless they have fully severed ties, and will hunt residents down the world over demanding tax due. Sales tax is 6% but may be up to 3% more in certain counties. There is no estate tax in South Carolina.

Corporations pay a flat tax of 5%. Many valuable tax credits are available, including a credit for developing corporate headquarters in South Carolina, and an abandoned buildings revitalization credit. For more information on taxation please see: http://www.sctax.org/default.htm
